Reliable Octopus V1.1 Control Board for Advanced 3D Printer Builds
The Octopus V1.1 Control Board by BIGTREETECH is a powerful 3D printer motherboard designed for Klipper, Marlin, Voron, Rat Rig, CoreXY, large-format printers, and advanced DIY printer electronics. It is built for builders who need more stepper driver capacity, more fan control, more heater outputs, and stronger expansion options than smaller printer control boards can provide.
The BIGTREETECH Octopus V1.1 uses a 32-bit ARM Cortex-M4 STM32F446ZET6 processor running at 180MHz. It supports Klipper and Marlin firmware, up to 8 stepper drivers with 9 stepper outputs total, up to 4 hotend heaters, CAN bus expansion, BLTouch and other leveling sensors, multiple fan outputs, and flexible wiring options for complex 3D printer builds.
8 Stepper Driver Slots for Advanced Motion Systems
The Octopus V1.1 supports up to 8 stepper drivers with 9 stepper driver outputs total. This makes it useful for printer builds that require multiple Z motors, independent motor control, dual gantries, CoreXY motion, tool changers, multi-extruder layouts, or advanced kinematic setups. Stepper drivers are typically sold separately unless a kit specifically includes them.
160 x 100mm Control Board Format
The Octopus V1.1 Control Board measures 160mm x 100mm with 150mm x 90mm mounting hole dimensions. Before installation, confirm your electronics enclosure, printed mount, standoffs, wiring clearance, USB access, fan clearance, and cable routing. Proper mounting helps protect the board from shorts, vibration, and wiring strain.
Klipper and Marlin Firmware Support
This board supports both Klipper and Marlin, making it flexible for different printer-control workflows. Klipper users can pair the board with a Raspberry Pi-style SBC, BIGTREETECH CB1/Pi4B-style setup, or other compatible host computer depending on the build. Marlin users can use the board as a high-capability standalone controller for supported printer configurations.
Powerful 32-Bit STM32F446 Processor
The Octopus V1.1 uses the STM32F446ZET6 32-bit ARM Cortex-M4 processor with a 180MHz core frequency. This gives the board strong processing capability for modern 3D printer motion control, expansion features, communication, and firmware operation.
Flexible Fan Control and Voltage Selection
The board supports up to 6 PWM fans and 2 always-on fans, with selectable voltage rails for fan outputs. BIGTREETECH documentation lists fan voltage selection from Vin, 12V, or 5V depending on configuration. This is useful for builds that mix hotend fans, part cooling fans, electronics bay fans, toolhead cooling, and controller cooling with different voltage requirements.
Multiple Heater and Sensor Connections
The Octopus V1.1 supports up to 4 hotend heaters and includes expansion support for common 3D printer sensors and accessories. It can support BLTouch-style leveling sensors, filament runout, power loss detection, automatic shutdown after printing, temperature sensor inputs, and other printer control features depending on wiring and firmware configuration.
CAN Bus, USB, SD Card, and Expansion Support
The board includes expansion support such as CAN bus, USB communication, U disk/USB function, SD card firmware workflows, IIC expansion, WiFi interface support, and other printer electronics features depending on configuration. This makes the Octopus V1.1 useful for modern toolhead wiring, expansion modules, display support, and advanced printer control layouts.
Great for Voron, Rat Rig, CoreXY, and DIY Printer Builds
The Octopus V1.1 Control Board is commonly used in advanced 3D printer builds such as Voron-style machines, Rat Rig-style machines, CoreXY printers, large-format printers, custom enclosed printers, and DIY printer electronics projects. It is especially useful when a build needs more drivers, more outputs, and more wiring flexibility than a smaller controller board.

Installation & Care
Confirm Board Version and Documentation
Before installing the Octopus V1.1 Control Board, confirm the exact board version, official pinout, firmware files, driver compatibility, power input requirements, and wiring documentation. Control board revisions can vary, so always follow the documentation for your exact board.
Confirm Board Size and Mounting
The Octopus V1.1 Control Board measures 160mm x 100mm with 150mm x 90mm mounting hole dimensions. Confirm your enclosure, DIN mount, printed bracket, standoffs, screw clearance, USB access, wiring path, and airflow before installation.
Power Off Before Wiring
Disconnect all power before installing the board, stepper drivers, fans, heaters, thermistors, endstops, probes, motors, USB cables, displays, or other electronics. Never plug or unplug wiring while the board is powered unless the documentation specifically allows it.
Set Fan Voltage Jumpers Carefully
The Octopus V1.1 supports selectable fan voltage rails. Confirm each fan voltage setting before connecting fans. Incorrect fan voltage can damage fans, toolhead electronics, or the control board.
Confirm Stepper Driver Installation
Install stepper drivers in the correct orientation and confirm driver type, jumper configuration, UART/SPI settings, motor current, cooling, and firmware configuration before powering the board. Incorrect driver installation can damage the board or drivers.
Check Power Inputs and Grounds
The board uses separate power input sections for different loads. Confirm power supply voltage, input polarity, common grounds where required, fuse protection, wire gauge, bed heater current, motor power, and terminal tightness before powering the printer.
Use Correct Firmware and Pin Configuration
Use firmware files and configuration exles intended for the Octopus V1.1 and your exact printer setup. Incorrect pin assignments, heater settings, fan settings, thermistor types, or motor configurations can cause unreliable operation or hardware damage.
Test One Subsystem at a Time
After installation, test power, USB communication, fans, endstops, probes, heaters, thermistors, motors, and firmware access one step at a time. Do not start a full print until each subsystem has been verified safely.
Provide Electronics Bay Cooling
Printer control boards, stepper drivers, power electronics, and wiring can generate heat during long prints. Use proper electronics bay airflow, fan placement, heatsinks, and cable management so the board, drivers, and wiring stay within safe operating conditions.
Protect the Board from Shorts and Debris
Mount the board on proper standoffs and keep it away from loose screws, metal chips, conductive dust, filament strands, moisture, and uninsulated wiring. A small short circuit can permanently damage printer electronics.
Qualified Wiring Recommended
High-current printer wiring, bed heater wiring, mains-powered accessories, and control cabinet wiring should be completed carefully by someone familiar with electrical safety. Incorrect wiring can damage equipment or create shock, heat, or fire hazards.
