Essential LM6LUU Linear Ball Bearing for 6mm Smooth Rod Motion
The LM6LUU Linear Ball Bearing is an extended-length linear motion bearing designed for smooth travel on compatible 6mm smooth rods. With a 6mm inner diameter, 12mm outer diameter, and 35mm overall length, this long-style bearing provides additional support compared with shorter LM6UU bearings. It is a practical choice for 3D printers, Prusa-style builds, compact CNC machines, robotics projects, linear tables, mechanical slides, and DIY motion systems.
This bearing is commonly used in applications where low-friction linear movement is required along a round shaft. The longer LM6LUU body helps provide more bearing surface contact, which can improve stability in compact motion assemblies when properly installed and aligned. For builders working on Prusa MK3-style machines, DIY 3D printers, or custom 6mm rod-based motion systems, the LM6LUU Linear Ball Bearing is a useful replacement, upgrade, or spare part.
Designed for 6mm Smooth Rods
The LM6LUU bearing is made for use with 6mm smooth rods or shafts. Proper shaft sizing and surface finish are important for smooth operation. A bent, scratched, dirty, or undersized rod can cause rough movement, excess noise, binding, or premature wear. For best performance, use clean, straight, hardened smooth rods designed for linear bearing applications.
Extended-Length Bearing for Added Support
The “LUU” style indicates a longer bearing body compared with the standard LM6UU format. This makes the LM6LUU useful where additional carriage support is preferred while still keeping the motion system compact. The longer body can be helpful for printer axes, small mechanical slides, compact gantries, measuring fixtures, and motion assemblies where stability matters.
Double-Sealed Linear Motion Bearing
The LM6LUU Linear Ball Bearing uses a double-sealed design to help reduce contamination from dust, debris, filament particles, and shop residue. The seals help protect the internal recirculating ball path and reduce the amount of frequent cleaning required. For the best service life, the bearing should still be kept clean, lightly lubricated when needed, and protected from abrasive particles.
Useful for 3D Printers, CNC, Robotics, and DIY Motion Systems
This bearing is suitable for 3D printer motion systems, Prusa-style builds, light-duty CNC projects, camera sliders, robotics mechanisms, linear tables, 2-axis tables, 3-axis tables, and custom mechanical slides. It is especially useful in builds where 6mm smooth rod motion is already part of the design and a longer linear bearing is required.

Technical Reference
LM-style linear ball bushings are commonly used with cylindrical shafts to create low-friction linear motion systems. For technical comparison, THK lists the LM6LUU format as a long-type linear bushing with a 6mm shaft size, 12mm outer diameter, and 35mm overall length. See this LM6LUU technical reference for additional dimensional context.

Installation & Care
Use with Clean 6mm Smooth Rods
The LM6LUU Linear Ball Bearing is designed for compatible 6mm smooth rods or linear shafts. Before installation, inspect the rod for scratches, dents, bends, rust, or debris. Damaged or dirty rods can create rough motion, noise, binding, or premature bearing wear.
Do Not Force the Bearing
Do not hammer, cl, crush, or force the bearing into place. Linear ball bearings contain recirculating steel balls and internal raceways that can be damaged by impact or uneven pressure. If the bearing is being installed into a printed part, bearing holder, or housing, make sure the bore is properly sized and aligned.
Keep Dust and Debris Away
The double-sealed design helps protect the internal bearing path, but the bearing should still be kept clean. Wipe the smooth rod with a clean lint-free cloth before installation and during regular maintenance. Avoid allowing filament dust, shop debris, CNC chips, sawdust, or abrasive particles to collect on the shaft.
Lubricate Lightly When Needed
Use a light machine oil or suitable linear bearing lubricant when required. Avoid excessive lubricant, especially in dusty environments, because heavy buildup can attract debris. After lubrication, move the carriage through the full travel length to distribute lubricant evenly.
Check Alignment Before Final Assembly
Linear ball bearings require good shaft alignment. Misaligned rods, twisted frames, uneven bearing holders, or over-constrained assemblies can create binding and rough travel. If using multiple bearings on one axis, confirm that both rods are parallel and that the carriage moves freely before final tightening.
Use the Correct Bearing for the Shaft Size
Use the LM6LUU bearing only with compatible 6mm smooth rods. Do not use it on 8mm rods or mismatched shafts. If your build uses 8mm smooth rods, use an LM8UU or LM8LUU bearing instead.
