Reliable 625-2RS Ball Bearing for Compact Rotary Motion

The 625-2RS Ball Bearing is a compact sealed bearing used for smooth rotary motion in 3D printers, wheels, pulleys, rollers, idlers, robotics, small machines, fixtures, and custom DIY mechanical assemblies. With a 5mm bore, 16mm outer diameter, and 5mm width, this bearing is a practical choice for projects that need a small, sealed bearing around a 5mm shaft, screw, axle, or mounting point.

The 2RS designation means the bearing includes rubber seals on both sides. These seals help protect the internal bearing races and balls from dust, filament particles, shop debris, and light contamination. This makes the 625-2RS Ball Bearing useful in 3D printer parts, motion hardware, hobby machines, robotics mechanisms, and workshop projects where a compact bearing needs extra protection compared with an open bearing.

Common 5mm Bore Bearing for DIY Machine Builds

The 625-2RS size is often used where a 5mm shaft or M5-style axle arrangement is part of the design. It can be used with compatible bolts, shoulder screws, shafts, standoffs, rollers, pulleys, printed parts, machined brackets, and custom bearing holders. Always confirm the shaft size, bearing pocket, and required clearance before installation.

Sealed 2RS Design for Cleaner Operation

Rubber-sealed bearings are helpful when the bearing may be exposed to dust, plastic particles, light shop debris, or handling contamination. The seals do not make the bearing waterproof, but they help reduce the amount of debris entering the bearing during normal use. For 3D printer and light machine applications, this can help improve reliability and reduce maintenance.

Useful for 3D Printers, Pulleys, Wheels, and Rollers

The 625-2RS Ball Bearing can be used in 3D printer idlers, belt guides, small wheels, V-slot style rollers, pulleys, spool holders, robotics arms, sliding fixtures, model projects, and compact mechanical assemblies. It is also useful for makers and repair work where a small sealed bearing is needed for smooth rotation.

Compact Size for Printed and Fabricated Parts

Because the 625-2RS bearing is small and widely used, it is easy to design into 3D printed parts, laser-cut plates, CNC brackets, and custom hardware. A properly sized bearing pocket can hold the bearing securely while allowing smooth rotation. For press-fit applications, test your fit before final assembly to avoid cracking printed parts or deforming softer materials.

Technical Reference

Deep groove ball bearings are commonly used for compact rotary motion because they support smooth rotation with relatively low friction. For general engineering context on bearing selection and terminology, see this deep groove ball bearing reference.

Installation & Care

Installation, Handling & Care

Confirm Shaft and Bearing Pocket Size

Before installing the 625-2RS Ball Bearing, confirm that your shaft, axle, bolt, or bearing pocket matches the bearing dimensions. This bearing has a 5mm bore, 16mm outer diameter, and 5mm width. A mismatched shaft or pocket can cause binding, looseness, rough rotation, or bearing damage.

Press Evenly During Installation

If the bearing is being pressed into a wheel, printed part, pulley, or bracket, apply pressure evenly around the outer race. Avoid pressing through the seal or applying uneven force across the bearing. Do not hammer the bearing directly.

Do Not Force Onto Oversized Shafts

The bearing should fit compatible 5mm shafts or axle hardware without excessive force. Forcing the bearing onto an oversized or damaged shaft can damage the inner race, seals, or internal balls. Inspect shafts for burrs, rust, dents, or debris before installation.

Keep the Bearing Clean

The 2RS rubber seals help protect the bearing from dust and light debris, but the bearing should still be kept clean. Avoid exposing it to abrasive dust, metal chips, excessive moisture, glue, paint, or cutting debris. Wipe surrounding parts before final assembly.

Avoid Side Loading and Misalignment

Deep groove ball bearings work best when properly aligned. Misaligned shafts, twisted brackets, uneven bearing pockets, or side-loaded assemblies can create rough rotation and premature wear. Check that the bearing rotates freely after installation.

Use Suitable Hardware and Spacers

When using the bearing in a wheel, pulley, or idler assembly, make sure spacers, washers, and bolts do not rub against the seal or outer race unless the design specifically allows it. The rotating and fixed parts should have proper clearance.
