Precision F688ZZ Flange Bearing for Compact Rotary Motion
The F688ZZ Flange Bearing is a compact shielded ball bearing with an integrated flange for smooth rotary motion in 3D printers, pulleys, guide rollers, idlers, robotics, small machines, fixtures, and custom DIY mechanical assemblies. With an 8mm bore, 16mm outer diameter, and compact bearing width, this bearing is useful for projects that need an 8mm bearing with extra edge support or positioning control.
The “F” designation indicates a flanged bearing design. The flange acts as a small shoulder on the outside of the bearing, helping locate the bearing in a pocket, guide it against a plate, or prevent it from sliding completely through a mounting hole. This makes the F688ZZ Flange Bearing especially useful in guide roller assemblies, 3D printed parts, pulley systems, small wheels, and custom brackets where bearing placement matters.
Flanged Bearing for Better Positioning
Compared with a standard 688ZZ bearing, the F688ZZ includes a flange that can help with alignment, spacing, and retention. The flange can sit against the face of a printed part, machined bracket, laser-cut plate, acrylic panel, or bearing pocket, creating a built-in stop. This is helpful when a bearing needs to stay positioned without relying only on friction, press fit, or extra washers.
ZZ Metal Shields for Light Debris Protection
The ZZ designation means the bearing includes metal shields on both sides. These shields help reduce contamination from dust, filament particles, shop debris, and general handling while maintaining smooth rotation. ZZ shields are not waterproof seals, but they are useful for many indoor 3D printer, robotics, pulley, roller, and light machine applications.
Useful for 3D Printers, Rollers, Pulleys, and DIY Assemblies
The F688ZZ Flange Bearing can be used in compact guide rollers, small wheels, belt idlers, pulleys, spool holders, robotics mechanisms, sliding fixtures, model projects, and custom mechanical assemblies. It is especially useful when the flange can help control side position or provide a clean bearing stop in the mounting design.
Compact Size for Printed and Fabricated Parts
Because the F688ZZ bearing is small and easy to design around, it can be used in 3D printed parts, CNC brackets, laser-cut plates, acrylic panels, and custom hardware. A properly sized bearing pocket can hold the bearing securely while allowing smooth rotation. For press-fit applications, test your fit before final assembly to avoid cracking printed parts or deforming softer materials.

Technical Reference
Deep groove ball bearings are commonly used for compact rotary motion because they support smooth rotation with relatively low friction. Flanged bearing styles add a locating shoulder that can help with retention and positioning in compact assemblies. For general engineering context on bearing selection and terminology, see this deep groove ball bearing reference.

Installation & Care
Installation, Handling & Care
Confirm Shaft and Bearing Pocket Size
Before installing the F688ZZ Flange Bearing, confirm that your shaft, axle, bolt, or bearing pocket matches the bearing dimensions. This bearing has an 8mm bore and 16mm main outer diameter. A mismatched shaft or pocket can cause binding, looseness, rough rotation, or bearing damage.
Use the Flange as a Locating Shoulder
The integrated flange is designed to act as a small locating shoulder. When installed correctly, the flange can help position the bearing against a plate, printed part, bracket, or pocket face. Make sure the flange has proper clearance and does not rub against moving parts unless your design specifically uses it as a guide surface.
Press Evenly During Installation
If the bearing is being pressed into a wheel, printed part, pulley, or bracket, apply pressure evenly around the outer race. Avoid pressing directly on the shield, flange edge, or inner race when seating the bearing into a pocket. Do not hammer the bearing directly.
Do Not Force Onto Oversized Shafts
The bearing should fit compatible 8mm shafts or axle hardware without excessive force. Forcing the bearing onto an oversized or damaged shaft can damage the inner race, shields, flange, or internal balls. Inspect shafts for burrs, rust, dents, or debris before installation.
Keep the Bearing Clean
The ZZ metal shields help protect the bearing from dust and light debris, but the bearing should still be kept clean. Avoid exposing it to abrasive dust, metal chips, excessive moisture, glue, paint, or cutting debris. Wipe surrounding parts before final assembly.
Avoid Side Loading and Misalignment
Deep groove ball bearings work best when properly aligned. Misaligned shafts, twisted brackets, uneven bearing pockets, or side-loaded assemblies can create rough rotation and premature wear. Check that the bearing rotates freely after installation.
Use Suitable Hardware and Spacers
When using the bearing in a wheel, pulley, idler, or guide roller assembly, make sure spacers, washers, and bolts do not rub against the shield or outer race unless the design specifically allows it. The rotating and fixed parts should have proper clearance.
